Is It Possible To Shrink Large Pores?

There are many things that can lead to large pores. Genetics and age both play a part. People with oily skin are more likely to have large pores than people with dry skin. Clogged pores, which in turn can lead to infection, and being exposed to a lifetime of sun can also cause the pores to dilate. So is there anything that can be done to decrease the diameter of enlarged pores?

There is no way to make pores smaller permanently, but it is possible to make them less noticeable. Exfoliation can minimize the appearance of pores. During exfoliation the dead top layer of skin is scrubbed off. This can be done at home or by a beauty therapist in a treatment called microdermabrasion.

Regularly cleaning the pores of oil and bacteria will significantly reduce their size. The use of a face wash that has vitamin "C" or retinol is preferable, as they contain antioxidants that not only clean, but also increase the elastin in your skin. Steaming your pores open by holding your face over a basin of hot water for one to three minutes will unclog your pores.

Other Interesting Ideas

Applying ice cubes to your pores for 30 seconds will have a tightening effect on your skin, although this technique does not have a sustained effect. Another good technique to try is to dampen a facecloth with lemon and/or pineapple juice and place on your face for one minute. The natural enzymes in these juices will help to tighten and purify the skin. Make sure you don’t have any cuts on your face though, or this could sting!

Eat Well

The food you eat has a direct link to the health of your skin. Eating oranges is particularly good for rebuilding collagen, which will help promote elasticity in your skin, and reduce pore walls. Applying a makeup primer before applying make up is also a good trick. This evens out the skin tone, and stops make up from sinking into your pores. Once it dries you apply your foundation as normal. Cream foundation is preferable, as it has less tendency to soak into pores.

Although large pores may not be as desirable in earlier life, people who have large pores will have oilier skin, which slows down the aging process. Their skin will be able to retain more of the natural moisture, and keep the skin healthier as they grow older.
